Club news 4 July 2016

With ire gs self-proclaimed Shakespeare-of-Sport on his annual trip to reconnect with his rebellious roots, this weeks notes come in an abridged version. Happily, the brief items to be imparted this week are all of a positive nature. The good news begins with the Mens Junior

JUNIOR FOOTBALL: Football team, who enjoyed an impressive victory at home against Knockananna in the Division 3 league. After a hard-fought first half there was little between the teams either in play or on the scoreboard, and the ire g advantage at the break was a slender and seemingly fragile lead of a single point. However, the team that took to the pitch after manager Ed Daviss rousing half-time address was re-energised and refocused and put in a second-half performance that gave management and supporters much to celebrate. This was a fine winning performance by all the team but special mention should be made of the contributions ofPat Egan, Eoin McTeague, David Behan, James Cranley & Anto Byrne Jnr. Team:Billy Norman,Liam Maguire, Pat Egan, Dermot Blake, Eoin McTeague,James Kelly,James Wood,David Behan,Niall Deeney,James Cranley,James Smullen,Cian O’Flaherty,James Delahunty,Willie O’Hagan,Sean Lawless.Subs:Anto Byrne,Gavin Parslow,Sen O’Mahony,Glenn Hayden,Evan Thompson

WEEKLY LOTTO: The weekly lotto draw just keeps growing and growing. Last weeks winning numbers were 1,16,22,27. There were no winners. Tickets are just 2 and are available from www.eireoggreystones.com

U16 HURLING: Another team putting in winning performances is the u16ire g Greystones/Kilcoolecombined hurling team. The first game of the school holidays was against Glenealy, in Glenealy. The effect of the break from competitive action was evident in the first half, and scores were hard to come by in the opening period. However, a goal by Glenealy to wipe out a narrow lead by the North Wicklow combined team was to incite the ire g/Kilcoole players to action. Performances were stepped up several gears across the pitch and this fresh intensity brought rapid reward, as the players began to turn battling defensive actions at one end into sweetly struck scores at the other. In what was never less than a hard-fought match the final score wasire g Greystones/Kilcoole5-26, Glenealy 2-04.Squad Oisin Curry, Drew Campbell, Marwan Machalaani, Conor Odlum, Brian Shortt, Thomas Moorehouse, Leo Hanney, Luke Thompson, Eoin Dorgan, Shaun Cranley, Glenn Dunne, Liam Byrne, Joe McDonald, Fionn Mansfield.

FEILE: Mention must be made again of the great club victory that heralded this week of good ire g performances: the u14 File success. Father and son team Colm and Luke Dorgan provided definitive accounts of the File weekend and performances in last weeks local paper and so it just remains to us here to thank once again the warm and welcoming hosts of Kilcummin GAA, to laud the ire g lads not only for their performances on the pitch but also for their exemplary behaviour off it and to congratulate management and mentors on a wonderful result for both team and club. Comhghairdeachas libh uile.
