Just to remind you that tickets (10 euro) are now available for Crannchur Naisiunta na gClubanna/ National Club Draw 2017. These are being distributed by Mark Barry but can be had through any member. There are 14 very attractive prizes on offer, the top one of which is an Opel Corsa. You are interested in the welfare of Eire Og Greystones? The why not try to sell a few or at least buy one.

The number of tickets within the club is limited so it is important that those unsold are put back into circulation in good time.

Hot off the press! Congratulations to Darren Hayden and Lorna Fusciardi who have just become engaged, A relationship nurtured within the club. Both have played at senior level for Eire Og and with the county. Everyone in the club wishes them the very best.

Why not drop down to Eire Ogs grounds to support the Wicklow footballers v Laois this Wednesday 11th at 7.30 p.m. and the hurlers v IT Tallaght on Sunday 22nd and v Trinity on the 29th, both at 2 p.m.

The comprehensive Runais report presented to the agm by Daniel English brought home once again the uniquely (for a sporting body) multifaceted nature of the function of your modern GAA club. It included summaries of the activities in 2016, both adult and juvenile, of the four sports catered for in Eire Og Greystones viz. football, hurling, ladies football and camogie. The administration of such a diversity of interests is no easy task and inevitably presents logistical and integration problems. The exercise is not made easier by the fact that the three sporting bodies involved, while being generally regarded in their functioning as branches of the GAA, are still separately managed at national (and at an embryonic and hopefully growing), international level.

A motion proposed by Ciaran Goff and aimed at ironing out some of the administrative problems arising from these different identities was put to the meeting: that the club name as per club constitution of each of the organisations be amended to Eire Og Greystones GAA, Camogie and Ladies Football Club. The motion drew many excellent contributions from the floor and gave rise to a lively but studied debate. It failed on the grounds that the consequences of its implementation were difficult to establish.

The workings of the clubs central coiste was another topic referred to in the report. It informed us that meetings were more or less monthly but these were, however, often not satisfactorily attended and had even on occasion to be rescheduled. A not at all desirable situation as it placed many of the meetings with respect to their decisions in the lame-duck category.

From what he knew of the members of the coiste Daniel described himself as doubting that these absences were due in any way to a lack of commitment but could be ascribed in large part to their double-jobbing within the club.

The subject of membership was also discussed in the report. It informed us that paid-up membership was well in excess of 700 but that the juvenile section accounted for 85% of this. The report complimented the managers of the various adult teams for their endeavours in encouraging their players to pay their membership fees.

When one thinks about it and when one looks at the value for money the fees afford, one cannot but conclude that the energy that has to be expended in collecting subs from the adult players borders on the ludicrous. Even at that there is a cohort of players who over the years have refused to part with any money. A bit like the water protesters they like to think that showers, lighting (diesel 1292 euro), water rates (1300 euro), physio services etc. all come at no cost to the club.

A motion to the effect that the playing rights in the current year for individuals who have not paid their previous years membership be restricted was proposed by the Runai who incidentally has great experience in this near drawing of blood from turnips exercise. The motion was favourably received by the meeting
