COMHGÁIRDEACHAS to Darren Hayden, captain of the Éire Óg senior team on his having been awarded the accolade of Greystones Sportsperson of the Year. Darren is undoubtedly deserving of this recognition. A true sportsman on the field, he has for many years worn with distinction and honour the blue and white of Éire Óg and the blue and gold of the county.
He has brought much joy to the football followers of Na Clocha Liatha and the county with his wholehearted commitment to their causes, his skilful play and his athleticism. Á ngreidhn thú, Darren. (Well done!)
Darren was presented with his award by C.C. and former Cathaoirleach of the club, Gerry Walsh.
Houses built on sand are destined to have an insecure existence and are likely to collapse under the effects of the atmosphere’s intemperances. No less than in the case of houses, clubs require for their longer-term survival to be built on a sound foundation viz. that of a strong and vibrant under-age structure. Éire Óg is lucky in having a committed and dynamic team of juvenile mentors beavering away at developing our young footballers (girls and boys), camogie players and hurlers. Some of the fruits of their work was to be seen in a number of recent blitzes.
Camogie: On a recent Friday night Éire Óg played host to an U-12 blitz which attracted teams from Bray, Aughrim, Annacurra and Arklow. Each team played 3 games. It turned out to be a wonderful evening of camogie which was thoroughly enjoyed by players and mentors alike. That the occasion went off without a hitch owed much to the management skills of Mark Barry.
The refreshments and goodies served up by Nuala Darcy and her team of parents were greatly appreciated and sent the visitors home in a happy frame of mind.

Eve Skerritt, Emma & Siobhán Darcy, Florence Fogarty, Faith Brock, Amie Webster, Keela & Sophie Keogh, Ella Keane, Tara Casey, Caoimhe Ryan, Aishling Goff, Amelia Gulliver and Ava McGowan.
U-10: Our U-10 footballers participated in the recent Go-Games blitz held in Bray Emmets. 4 clubs were involved, Bray Emmets, An Tochar, Newtown and Greystones ( 3 teams of 10 players). Considering that the squad is very much biased towards U-9 the lads acquitted themselves very well against physically stronger opponents.
This was the third blitz of the season, the first rain-free, and the improvement in skill shown by the players over the series of games is a source of great satisfaction to the coaches.
U-10 Hurling Blitz: The Éire Óg mentors complimented hosts Fergus Óg on a well-run event. A squad of 21 players travelled from Greystones and this allowed us to field three teams. The other clubs involved were Fergal Óg, Bray Emmets and Kilmac. Spectators were treated to a very enjoyable evening of hurling.
