Both adult ladies football teams begin their championship campaigns

Historic first ever match for second adult ladies football team

Both our senior (1st) and junior C (second) adult ladies football teams have commenced their championship campaigns, with both putting in strong performances.

Our senior team, back playing at the highest grade for the first time in 12 years put in a strong display against Bray Emmets at Pairc Mhic Suain de Barra on 25 July eventually losing out following a late surge by Bray.

The final score line, 4:13-2:10 didn't reflect the closeness of the contest.

The next day, for the first ever time, we fielded an adult ladies football second team when we entertained Carnew Emmets also at Pairc Mhic Suain de Barra.

This time, the result did go our way, with the girls coming out on top 1:14-0:03.

Late two-pointers force senior men's footballers to settle for draw

Our senior men’s footballers had to settle for a draw on Sunday (2nd August) in their opening championship match against Rathnew.

Coming into injury time, they were four points ahead but two late two-pointers from their opponents left the final score at 0-16 each.

While they might be a bit disappointed to let the victory slip away, this was a really good team performance with special mention to Cillian Keane who kicked 10 points.

Next is Tinahely on 16 August.

Senior hurlers open championship campaign with a win

Our senior hurlers finished with a flourish to secure victory in their opening championship match played in Aughrim on 23 July.

With four minutes remaining Aughrim were one point to the good at 0-14 to 0-13 and attacking. They were disposed and we went up the field and Billy Cuddihy careered through to kick home a goal. One minute later Leon Browne had a second goal in the Aughrim net to leave the final score at 2:13-0:15.

The Tailteann Cup comes to Pairc Mhic/Suain De Barra

What a memorable evening we had on 16 July when our Tailteann Cup heroes Joe, Oisin and Dr Nick brought the Cup to town!

A huge thanks to the three lads who are an inspiration to our current and future generations.

Junior B men's footballers claim league crown

Our Junior B men's footballers have returned to Division 3 for next season by virtue of defeating Stratford in the Division 4 final on 16 July.

Played in Aughrim, on a bone dry surface, this game was evenly balanced at half-time, with us were leading by one point.

Points from Eoin O’Lionaigh and Daniel Connerty and a great two-pointer from Gearóid Murphy had us 1-9 to 0-7 with ten minutes gone. Stratford did make a comeback but our lads effectively held it off.

After the game our captain Michael Cannon was presented with the Gerry Finan Cup by County Board Vice-Chairman Martin Fitzgerald.

Winning championship starts for minor boys footballers and hurlers

Minor footballers: A super two point win away to Dunlavin in the first round of the minor football championship on 27 July. They dug deep to win on a score line on 2-11:1-12. They play Kilcoole next.

Minor hurlers: Another fine away victory. The team travelled to Blessington to play Western Gaels and came away with a fine victory on score line of 1-19:5-13. Next up is a home match against St Pat's on 4 August

Adult camogie teams "gearing" up nicely for championship!

Our intermediate and junior camogie teams are flat out with the championship preparations and The Horse & Hound Delgany are making sure they do it in style with their generous sponsorship of the team and their stunning new gear.

Massive thanks to Aidan, Kevin and their team in the horse and hound for the support. Fantastic to see a local business supporting our club and these two fantastic team.
