Danny Hatton RIP

Danny Hatton RIP

Originally from Kilcoole, Danny gave wonderful service to the GAA since he began playing football as a 12-year-old in Greystones CBS. He won his first medal in the school’s league at under 14.

As a juvenile, he lined out for Newtown, as Kilcoole had no juvenile set-up at the time. He played on the Newtown team that won the Dublin/Wicklow Men’s Cup (under-16) in 1950. He also secured his place on the Wicklow Minor team for two years.

Playing with his native Kilcoole, he won a Senior County title in 1954 as a 17-year-old beating St Pat’s in the final. He was also on the Kilcoole team, which was defeated in the county final in 1957 by Donard.

In 1957, he got married and settled in Greystones and when his sons Vincent, Mick and John started playing with our club, it was a natural development for him to become involved with our club.

He did trojan work with various teams over the years as well as serving on juvenile and adult committees. Indeed, he was the chairman of the juvenile club known as Éire Óg before the amalgamation with the adult section and coached his boys in a very successful period in that club’s short existence.

He was appointed to the position of club President in 2003 along with Des Mitchell (RIP) and Patsy Vickers (RIP).

It was the vision, dedication and foresight of Danny and others to progress Gaelic Games in our community which laid the foundation for the thriving club we have today.
