Senior men's footballers get championship campaign back on track

Our senior men’s footballers bounced back from their opening-day defeat against Dunlavin to get their campaign back on track last Friday with a win against Barndarrig in Rathnew.

The scores were level at halftime but a strong second-half display against the breeze which saw the bench make a big impact, Dave Rooney kicked five points and Eoin Eoin O’Neill scored a crucial goal saw them record a 1-13:1-07 victory.

They’ll be hoping to maintain their momentum when they play Arklow on Saturday, 10 August at 6:15 pm.

Éire Óg to host SCÓR na nÓg Wicklow finals

For the first time, Éire Óg will host the SCÓR na nÓg, County Wicklow finals. The big night will be in the Autumn with the date and venue to be confirmed.

SCÓR is a GAA competition that combines all the colour and rivalry of Gaelic Games with the social/fun element of Ireland’s traditional pastimes.

There are eight events/disciplines in SCÓR that cover all aspects of Irish culture: Figure/Céilí Dancing, Solo Singing, Ballad Group, Recitation/Scéalaíocht, Nuachleas/Novelty Act, Instrumental Music, Set Dancing and Table Quiz. The competition is divided into two age levels, SCÓR na nÓg, for young people under 17 and SCÓR Sinsir, for those over 17.

Clubs taking part in SCÓR send club representatives to compete at County level with the winners going on to the Provincial final. Those successful go on to the All-Ireland Final.

Éire Óg’s participation in SCÓR na nÓg and SCÓR sinsir has grown steadily and our club has made great progress with entries in the instrumental music, figure dancing, solo singing, table quiz and set dancing competitions. Last spring, the club earned its first SCÓR county medal for Set Dancing.

So this is a call to all our members to get behind SCÓR!
