Club News 25 September 2023

Great week for adult ball teams: It’s been a great week to ten days for both our adult men and ladies footballers as are senior and Junior B men’s teams progressed to the quarter and semi-finals of their respective championships and the ladies team have advanced to the semi-final of theirs.

  • Senior men’s football: Last weekend, we needed to beat Tinahely in Baltinglass to ensure passage to the quarter-finals. This was going to be a formidable challenge as their opponents had been unbeaten thus far in the championship. But a really good performance in tough conditions, saw them prevail by three points. They will play Arklow in the quarter-finals on 1 October. Read a match report HERE
  • Junior B men’s football: Our second team secured their place in the last four of the championship courtesy of a good win over Avondale in Ballinakill on Monday. They raced into an earlier six-point lead which they never relinquished. They are due to play Tinahely in the semi-final on 29 September. Read a match report HERE.
  • Adult Ladies Football: A late Ella Andrews goal settled the nerves and booked the team’s place in the semi-finals in their quarter-final match against An Tochar in Roundwood last Sunday. The team ran out four-point winners. They now face Bray in the semi-final tomorrow (24th) at home at 12 pm.

Flying Visit: We had four brilliant performances from our four U16 boys football teams this week. The lads are always well supported, but one of the players, Niall Barry, had a special supporter, his great uncle Eugene who was on a visit from Canada. Eugene is the brother of club President Ray, and he played for the club himself back in the 1960s.
