FINANCIAL MATTERS This weeks (Mon 30th) winning numbers were 1, 24, 26, 28 There were no winners so the jackpot for Mon 7th is a not-to-be-sneezed-at 8400.

Strictly Come Eire Og: The intensity of their training has been such that the Strictly Greystones dancers are all on their 2nd pair of dancing shoes. They are hoping that these will last them through to show night on a rapidly approaching 10th June. Tickets which are at a premium are available from John Keane at 086-8280261. To avoid disappointment immediate purchase is advisable.
Kenneth Goonery, one of the Strictly Greystones dancers, is running a pony riding and family fun day on this Sunday the 6th between 2 and 4 pm at Ballydonagh Stables opposite Kindlestown Wood.

IOMAINT Some straws of hope drifted into the perspective of the so-called weaker counties, which unfortunately count Wicklow among their number, with Westmeaths recent victory over Kilkenny in the u-21 Championship. Dare one ask if this totally unanticipated outcome is a herald that the old order changeth? An occurrence (with apologies to the black and amber adherents) which in the minds of many of the hurling fraternity countrywide is devoutly to be wished.

There was also good news for hurling within the county with Cill Mantains win over Derry in the Christy Ring Championship. A victory which means that Wicklow has avoided the dreaded drop to the Nicky Rackard group. One is happy to report that a number of Greystones hurlers played an important part in this success. Dan ONeill kept a clean sheet in goal while Stephen Kelly (full-back) and Peter Keane (right half back) were part of a very solid back division. Anto Byrne came on after the break and scored a point.

Not so good news however was the trouncing of our seniors on Sunday morning at home by Glenealy. Watching on the sideline as Greystones played a poor 2nd fiddle all over the field one was prompted to paraphrase the question put to Caesar and inquire Oh! mighty hurlers, how have you slumped so low? There are only 4 weeks to the 1st round of the SHC so there is a lot of work to be done if we are to be competitive in this competition. However the management is optimistic that it will be able to effect a turnabout in the teams form within this time constraint.

PEIL u-14 buachailli: Information on the exploits of these boys on the Gaelic field are somewhat sparse so faute de mieux one is happy to report that 3 of their number, Joseph Prendergast, Darragh Rush and James Nicholson were members of the Greystones athletics team which recently won the Leinster 4×100 metres relay in this age group. Maith sibh a bhuachailli!

U-12 cailini: Thankfully the cailini are less inclined than the boys to hide their light under a bushel so the notes are regularly informed of their progress. On Tuesday these girls travelled to Roundwood to play An Tochar. After a very enjoyable and exciting contest the teams finished level on a score of 3-2 each. It was 2-1 all at the break. On the night the management was presented with a difficult logistical problem. There were 11 subs and with the game being only 25 minutes each half it was a mind-wrecking exercise trying to ensure that all the girls got reasonable game time.
U-8 buachailli: On Sunday some of our u-8 footballers took part in a very enjoyable blitz in Kilmacud Crokes. They were under the stewardship of Gary Lehane and Diarmaid OBoyle. The photos of the occasion on the Eire Og Facebook page show them having great fun with Sam Maguire.

PEIL na mBAN: The All-Ireland Lidl League comprises 4 divisions and at the end of the league season an All-Star team is chosen in each of these. Wicklow compete in Division 4. Comhgairdeachas to our own Lorna Fusciardi who has been nominated at left-half back in the Division 4 team. She will be presented with her award on Wednesday evening I bPairc an Crocaigh.
