IOMINT The Go-Go games hurling blitzes are over but there is still life in 2016 so Mark Barry has taken the opportunity to organise u-9 and u-11 leagues. He has received positive responses from Feargal g/ Enniskerry, St Pats, Kilcoole, Glenealy, Cuala and ire g. Two rounds have already been played and ire g with a team of mainly u-10 players has performed very well. The leagues purpose is to ensure that the clubs will have well prepared squads in u-10 and u-12 hurling in 2017.

Saturday morning ire g played host to an u-10 team from Ballinteer/St Johns. The game was played with 13-a-side teams. While all our team played well the performances of Joshua Barry and Samus Darby were particularly noteworthy outfield. Alce Bartag, James ODowd and Daniel Burns(of mixed Galway and Tipp parentage) comprised a solid last line of defence. Mark was delighted to welcome on board 2 new members, Evan Donnelly and Ruben Palmer who have only recently taken up the camn. They both showed very promising talent. The game was refereed by young Sen Cranley.

One has to say buochas le Dia that the club has a female division for, be it football or camogie, it is often the only source of information on which the notes can chew at the weekend. This week one has the added bonus of a report on underage hurling from Mark Barry.

Peil na gCailn Comhghirdeachas to our underage girls who are county B-champions at u-12, u-14 and u-16 levels.

U-14 The u-14 B-championship final on Sunday was like its u-12 counterpart, in which ire g happened also to be involved played in Ballinakill. Happily from a Na Clocha Liatha point of view, our cailn were victorious in both. In a match in which An Tchar were our opponents, the occasion certainly did not get to our u-14 girls, as they were into the game straight from the throw-in and had a goal to their credit after only three minutes, when Eimear Fawcetts looping shot from out on the right deceived the An Tchar netminder and found its way under the bar to the back of the net. This immediately put an extra spring in the Na Clocha Liatha girls step and they were soon in for another goal, a fine team effort that was finished to the net with a cracking drive by Ella Horgan. Two spectacular points from distance, one from Niamh Hanrahan and the other from Eva Magennety, were quickly added on and left our girls in the happy position of being 2-2 ahead after only eight minutes.

The Greystones forwards were now in free-flow and mounted attack after attack. A rampant Niamh Hanrahan, at the end of a superb run through the oppositions defence, flashed the ball to the Roundwood net. It was only after Niamh and Ella Horgan had added two further minors that An Tchar began to come to grips with the pace and intensity of the ire g play and to show their mettle. They upped their endeavour and it was not long until they had our goals under siege. Unfortunately for them, they were confronted by an uncompromising full-back line of Andrea Hanlon, Megan Maguire and Faye Evans and an in-form Ciara ODonnell in goal and their best efforts yielded only a single point.

An Tchar had the advantage of the slope and the breeze during the second half and the match took on a totally different pattern. Play was now much more even and the ire g scoring rate dropped off spectacularly, and surprisingly they were restricted to two points for the half while their opponents succeeded in adding one.

Well done to mentors Samus Ahern and Mchel Mrdha.

Congratulations to Ellie ONeill (sister of our senior hurling goalie) who claims the distinction of being the 1st ire g camogie player to earn her place on a county team. She was a member of the panel which represented Wicklow in the recent u-15 inter-county blitz which was held in the Longford Slashers Grounds.

It was great to see 4 of our hurlers, Neil Browne, Sen Cranley, Drew Campbell (St Davids) and Luke Dorgan (Templecarrig) listed in the Cill Mantin schools team which defeated Knockbeg in the Leinster championship.

Congratulations to our u-16 girls who defeated St Pats B team in the final of the Girls B-Football Championship.(Report next week)
